| What things have come to your mind about Australian Identity? May be kangaroos, koalas, vegemite, mateship, or laid-back lifestyle? Yeh, these are all good. However, Aussies could consider to add on two more well-known features to identify them. The first one is long queues and long waiting time nationwide. Today I went to immigration office to submit my medical check report for extending my visa and there was a long queue of around 30 parties. Considering that Perth has only around 1.3 million people, 30 parties in the queue can be considered as quite a lot. I spent at least 10 mins standing at the same location of the queue, and meanwhile the size of the queue increased to around 40 parties. Yet, there were only two counters serving customers. At the same time, there was a German guy who was behind me in the queue and I overheard his conversation with another woman who was also in the queue. He said, "You know, I'm so sick of queuing up and waiting for service in Australia. That's totally nonsense". And the woman replied, "I'm get used to it". Obviously, this feature of Australia is known worldwide and has got the potential to be identified as one of Australian Identities. The second one is high probability to make mistake. I got a call from my gym that I joined recently this morning. The lady on the phone told me that they were unable to withdraw money by direct debit from my account. She suspected that the account details that I had given them were incorrect. But I doubted as I had called the bank to get all my account details when I was signing up for the membership. I had jotted down the details on a document, and the staff who was serving me that day just copied directly from the document and helped me to get all the paperwork done. So I suspected that the staff had misread something, and luckily I still had the document on hand. I found that the account details that I had jotted down is correct. I checked the paperwork and found that the staff had misprinted one of the digits of my account number (5 instead of 9). I went to the gym and correct the details and paid the debt also. I didn't tell the story as I just wanted to get it done fast. When I got my receipt, I found that they charged me $5 for bank dishonoured fee. I was so angry and complained to the staff immediately. Indeed, I was unable to provide evidence at that time as the document with my account details had submitted to the immigration office just before I went to the gym. Anyhow, the staff has made a note and pass on the case to the manager. I swear I won't give up in this incident. Another interesting story also happened the other day. I got my new pair of jeans altered, and I found that they ended up with different lengths (left side was about 1" shorter than right side). So I went back today to ask them re-altering the jeans for me. The lady who was serving me told me that it's not that obvious and not much difference. I was shocked!! How unprofessional she was. I spent $25 for the alteration and you told me that 1" difference means nothing. Fuck U! Of course, she ended up to re-alter for me as I insisted it is very obvious. |
